Adaptive Reconfiguration in a Monument‑Rich Urban Context
The first‑floor apartment is located in the historic center of Thessaloniki, in the Rotonda district — an area defined by its strong monumental character and dense architectural heritage. Originally designed as a long, unified residential space, the apartment underwent a complete reconfiguration and was divided into two independent living units.
To accommodate this new layout, a shared antechamber was created within the building’s communal corridor, enabling the formation of two separate entrances, one for each new residence.
The original 55 m² floor area was redistributed between the two units, D1 and D2. Each apartment benefits from natural light and ventilation either through openings along Armenopoulou Street or through windows facing the internal courtyard.
The design follows a minimalist approach, using earthy tones and clean lines to create two contemporary, elegant, and highly functional apartments. The refined architectural detailing and upgraded spatial quality make the units ideal for students or young professionals seeking a modern and comfortable urban living environment.
